According to the rumors, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 could be one of the first few smartphones to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. In fact, just recently there were leaked specs to suggest that was true. For those wondering how true it is, wonder no more because Xiaomi’s co-founder Liwan Jiang has confirmed some of those details.
Posting on his Weibo account, Jiang confirmed that the upcoming handset will indeed be powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 820, meaning that as far as we’re concerned, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be quite a powerful device. He also revealed that the handset had entered into mass production and is expected to be available around Chinese New Year, which is basically early February.
Jiang did not confirm the other specs of the phone, so, for now, we’ll have to treat them as rumors, but just in case, you forgot: the Mi 5 will pack a 5.2-inch QHD display with a 2.5D glass, with 4GB of RAM and a 16MP rear-facing camera. There are also 32GB/64GB storage options. It is also rumored to feature a 13MP selfie cam, dual-SIM functionality, a 3,000mAh battery with Android 6.0 Marshmallow preinstalled.
In any case, hopefully the official details will be revealed so, but until then do take these extra specs with a grain of salt for now.
