While it certainly sounds like Sony’s PlayStation console is leading in terms of console sales, it looks like Microsoft’s Xbox platform isn’t doing too badly either. In fact if anything it sounds like Microsoft’s Xbox platform is growing, and this shows in Microsoft’s recently Q2 earnings in which it saw an increase in monthly active users for the Xbox Live service.
According to the numbers, the service saw a 30% increase year-over-year. To be more specific, Xbox Live now plays home to 48 million monthly active users, which is an increase of 9 million gamers from the previous quarter which only had 39 million monthly active users. This shows that there seems to be an increase in gamers playing and using the Xbox Live platform.
Unfortunately what Microsoft did not reveal is how many Xbox One units they have sold. To be fair, Microsoft has never really announced how many units they have sold and typically use shipped figures, which is not the same thing. However like we said, the increase in the number of players on Xbox Live is definitely a good sign for Microsoft.
However Microsoft did note that hardware revenue was down, which they have attributed to a lesser number of Xbox 360 units being sold, which we guess isn’t too surprising since many gamers have since moved on to the newer consoles.
