Volkswagen has made several cars that have become truly iconic, they have been remembered and cherished for decades and will continue to be appreciated in the years to come. The Volkswagen Microbus is one of those cars and now the company has unveiled a new concept vehicle which is based on that iconic car, the Budd-e is a concept van that’s powered by an electric motor only. The announcement didn’t come as a surprise since VW had been teasing it weeks before CES 2016.
The Budd-e is built on Volkswagen’s new Modular Electric Platform that has been designed from the ground up for plug-in vehicles, it promises a range of up to 373 miles on a single charge while retaining its charismatic and iconic design.
It’s unclear if this exact vehicle will ever make it to the road but will surely do is the underlying modular platform, the company says that this new platform will enable it to develop a production car that provides pure electric range parallel to today’s fuel powered cars.
Budd-e is the first concept car Volkswagen has made on the MEB platform, it showcases the company’s advancement in battery and charging technology over the years while it promises that dynamic performance will remain a priority of MEB-based vehicles.
Volkswagen hasn’t said yet when its production full electric car might arrive.
