In a statement made to The Verge, Sony has confirmed that both the models that are arriving stateside will not feature a fingerprint sensor. Android Police received similar confirmation and were told that “This was simply a business decision.” For those unfamiliar, both the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact have fingerprint sensors placed on its side where the power button is also located.
Given that pretty much most flagship devices these days come with fingerprint sensors, it seems odd that Sony will choose to launch a phone in such a competitive space without the feature. There is no detailed explanation as to why they are skipping on the sensor, but given their statement to Android Police, it sounds like maybe they’re trying to cut costs.
In any case, if you do love the Xperia Z5 but would love that it includes a fingerprint sensor as well, you can just as easily pick up the international variants from websites such as Expansys or even Amazon.
