Just in case you’re not familiar with unlocked phones, basically these are phones that aren’t tied to a particular carrier, meaning that you will still need to choose a carrier. There are also no monthly repayments as the phone will be purchased directly from Microsoft, but then again it is priced at $139, making it a pretty affordable handset.
For those who might have missed out on the earlier announcement of the device, here’s a quick recap on its specs. The Lumia 550 is an affordable smartphone but despite its low price tag, it does come with some pretty decent hardware. For starters it features a 4.7-inch HD display and a Snapdragon 210 SoC under the hood.
While it probably won’t be the best phone for heavy duty tasks, it should be good enough to get the job done. It will also pack 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, and a 2,100mAh battery to boot with Windows 10 Mobile preinstalled.
