This was confirmed by The Verge’s Chris Welch who used to be a subscriber. According to the email that Tidal sent out to affected customers, “We are sorry to inform you that due to an error, you have been billed 19.99$ for a TIDAL subscription. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, and have already refunded the amount to your account. However, it can take from 2-5 business days to show up on your credit card statement.”
The good news is that to make up for the inconvenience, these affected users have been given free three months access to Tidal Premium. “In addition to the full refund, we have also given you free access to TIDAL Premium for the next three months as a compensation.” So like we said, if you have cancelled your subscription, you might want to check if you have been accidentally charged.
If you’re a bit of a cynic, you might think of this as some kind of clever ploy to get users using the service again. After all why let those free three months go to waste, right? But what do you guys think? Genuine mistake or clever strategy?
