Takata Airbag Recall Expands By 5 Million

It looks like things are certainly not looking up for the folks over at Takata, taking into consideration how they have seen several clients in the vein of Honda and Nissan dropping them with the airbag controversy, while having to experience product recalls from the market. The latest bit of information also casts dark skies over Takata, as U.S. regulators have just announced a new recall concerning approximately 5 million vehicles with potentially defective Takata Corp air bags, and this latest recall will include several automakers who were not affected in the past.

This latest recall would see the total number of Takata air bag inflators recalled hit the 28 million mark, where it also increases the overall number of vehicles that have been affected in the U.S. to touch th 24 million mark, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

One of the contributing factors to this particular move can be attributed to a death involving the driver of a Ford Motor Co. pickup truck in December, alongside results from new tests conducted on suspected faulty air bags. First time automakers affected include Volkswagen AG, its Audi unit and Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz unit. Hopefully there will no longer be any more deaths associated with Takata airbags rupturing from now on.
