Yesterday with the addition of 14 new Binge On partners added to the list, the number of partners T-Mobile had was brought up to 38. This was pretty close to the 50 partners that T-Mobile was aiming for, but it looks like they have just lost one and are now one step further away from achieving that goal.4Stream.TV, has recently announced (via Android Police) that they will no longer be participating in the Binge On program. Apparently this had to do with T-Mobile CEO’s rant and comments made about the EFF. “In light of recent events and comments made by your CEO, John Legere, we have decided to halt our participation in Binge On and disable our traffic shaping rules for the time being.”
It seems that they weren’t too thrilled about his comments, but also noted that they would love to come back on board again the future. “As net neutrality supporters and EFF Members, we encourage you to be more honest and transparent about the issue and develop a program that we can be proud to participate in.”
Now if you have browsed T-Mobile’s Binge On partners list, you’ll note that 4Stream.TV is not listed. So how can they pull out if they weren’t in it to begin with? According to a report from ArsTechnica, it seems that 4Stream.TV was still working with T-Mobile to meet their requirements. 4Stream.TV themselves also do not provide streaming videos directly to the customer, but rather they help out with companies who do want to stream videos to their customers, and that they were hoping to get some of their clients’ services zero-rated on T-Mobile’s network.
For those unfamiliar with the recent events, the EFF basically conducted their own tests to prove that T-Mobile was indeed throttling services like YouTube who weren’t part of the Binge On program. T-Mobile’s CEO wasn’t very happy about these tests and claims, stating that they were only done to get in the news.
