Announced CES 2016, Sony has launched two new memory cards in the form of new XQD and SDXC UHS-II cards. For those unfamiliar, UHS-II is the latest class of memory cards that offers faster read and write speeds compared to its predecessor. The Sony XQD cards from Sony promises read speeds of up to 440MB/s, and write speeds of up to 150MB/s.
The SD cards are slightly slower at 260MB/s read speeds, and 100MB/s write speeds. Sony also notes that these new cards are also compatible with Nikon’s latest cameras, the Nikon D5 and the Nikon D500, so if you are planning on getting either of those cameras and want a high-performance memory card to go along with it, these cards might be worth checking out.
Unfortunately in terms of pricing and availability, Sony has yet to determine when and how much they will be priced at. However given what we’ve seen from other similar cards, it probably won’t come cheap.
