Skype Translator Now Available For All Skype For Windows Users

Quite a while back Microsoft launched a separate Skype Translator app which provided real-time translation in seven languages. Since the feature was in beta it was not incorporated into the main app but now the company is confident enough that this feature is ready for prime time which is why it has announced that Skype Translator is now built right into the main Skype for Windows app.

The folks at Skype also share some fun facts about this feature. French to English is the most popular translation pair, and the number of calls per day has surged 400 percent since launch. The most international Skype Translator calling corridor is Germany to Ghana.

Windows users no longer need to get the separate app for voice-to-voice translation in real time, because that’s now possible from the main Skype for Windows app. Translation in all seven languages is supported, that includes Chinese Mandarin, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.

That’s not all though since Skype already features text-to-text translation even in languages that aren’t supported for the voice-to-voice translation. This particular feature allows users to write in over 50 instant message languages on Skype.

The Skype team says that it’s going to continue rolling out new languages in the future, and that Skype Translator will be included in the main Skype app on other platforms as well. To use Skype Translator within Skype for Windows just click on the globe in the upper right hand corner of the app.
