Skype’s mobile apps on major platforms already provide a long list of features that include group instant messaging, file sharing, while group video calls will soon be coming to mobile as well. Today it’s rolling out an update for Skype for Android which adds a couple of new features to this app, like the ability to open Office documents and schedule a Skype call.
It’s already possible to schedule Skype calls using Outlook but on Skype for Android it’s now even possible to schedule calls in Outlook from Skype. Users can also opt for another calendar app to schedule the call if they don’t use Outlook. Then it’s just a matter of creating an event and sending out the invite to the other party, and they’ll never miss a call again.
Android users will now find it much easier to open Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets that they receive in one-on-one or group chats on Skype. Tapping on a received Office file will open it up in the relevant app straightaway, there’s no need for additional steps or taps. Those who don’t have Office for Android on their device will receive easy instructions on how to download and install it.
The latest version of Skype for Android is now available for download from the Google Play Store.
