Samsung’s First Foldable Smartphone Could Arrive By End Of 2016

Over the past couple of years, it has been rumored time and again that Samsung is working on a foldable smartphone. The company does have several patents related to foldable smartphones but we haven’t seen a consumer product materialize yet. Analysts are predicting that Samsung might launch its first foldable smartphone by the end of this year.

HSBC analysts are of the view that foldable smartphone technology is going to be here “sooner than we think,” predicting that Samsung is most likely going to be one of the first companies that commercially launches a foldable smartphone.

They believe Samsung is going to make this move because it wants to regain market share and one of the best ways to do that is to come out with a truly new product that captures the attention of customers who have started looking elsewhere.

Aside from providing a high degree of production differentiation the foldable device would also enable the company to capture market share in both smartphone and tablet markets, the analysts believe, so this bet could pave the way for Samsung to get itself out of the slump.

So far Samsung itself has not said anything about a foldable smartphone let alone commit to a launch timeframe, it was previously expected that a foldable smartphone may not arrive before 2017, but considering the company’s position in the market now that’s increasingly coming under pressure who knows this prediction might turn out to be true by the end of this year.
