It’s an interesting feature but not exactly groundbreaking, so much so that we have to wonder why Samsung might be interested in replicating the feature for their phones. According to a report from Android Geeks, they have learnt from their sources that Samsung is said to be planning a similar feature called Vivid Photo which is expected to debut on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7.
However, the difference here is that Samsung’s version will be less proprietary. Unlike Live Photos which lets you capture sound, Vivid Photo is said to only capture the image. While this might seem “inferior”, the upside is that users can upload their photos directly to Facebook where it will basically be shared as a GIF, versus Live Photos where it will require special attention from Facebook to process it.
In fact, if anything it sounds like a combination of Apple’s Live Photos and Instagram’s Boomerang app. In any case, take it with a grain of salt for now, but with the rumors that Samsung could announce the Galaxy S7 next month, maybe we won’t have to wait too long before we get the official word.
