There have been many rumors and reports about when Samsung is going to start rolling out the much awaited Marshmallow update for its 2015 flagship handsets. The company never really gave a confirmed date but it was believed that it would release Android 6.0 Marshmallow in early 2016. That prediction was indeed true as Samsung has released Marshmallow for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, albeit on its home turf.
The Android 6.0.1 update for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge has been released by Samsung for users in South Korea. It arrives after the company conducted a beta program for a couple of weeks in which it allowed people to sign up in order to get a chance to try the beta Marshmallow firmware on their handset.
Samsung users have been waiting for Marshmallow for a very long time, Google released the update last year and it first arrived on the company’s Nexus crop of handsets. There are only a few other OEMs that have released Android 6.0 for their devices and even they’ve not released the update for all of their supported devices.
The Korean giant may have rolled out Marshmallow for its flagships from last year in South Korea only for now but it’s confirmation enough that the rollout process has begun. It goes without saying that users in other markets will not have to wait for much longer for Marshmallow to arrive.
It’s going to be a different story for those who own carrier locked devices because mobile carriers tend to hold up updates to perform their own tests.
