The world might seem to be a rather cruel place with all that is going on in the news right now, while nature rages at humanity for not taking care of our environment, but from time to time there are acts of kindness that definitely brings a smile to our faces, not to mention make the world seem a far better place. Over in Colombia, police officer Luisa Fernanda Urrea came across an abandoned baby and with her set of quick thinking skills, some compassion, and her pair of breasts, she managed to save the baby’s life by breastfeeding her.
Making her way to the scene after a newborn girl was found in the woods, police officer Urrea’s heart just broke at the sight of the crying child who still has part of her umbilical cord attached. The girl was obviously starving and was running the risk of hypothermia due to exposure, so Urrea decided to swaddle her and being a new mother herself, she breastfed the baby.
Urrea shared later, “I’m a new mother and I have milk, and I recognized the needs that this poor little creature had… I think any woman would have given her nourishment in the same circumstances.” Right now, the baby is safe in the Colombian Family Welfare Institute, where she awaits for an adoptive home.
