As art is so subjective, what some might consider to be silly might be considered by others to be deep or meaningful. Whether or not some people are just being pretentious is an entirely different story, but safe to say that sometimes it is amazing how much certain pieces of art can fetch when sold to art lovers.
Recently it has been revealed that photographer Kevin Abosch managed to sell a photo of a potato (see above) for more than a whopping $1 million. No, you did not read that wrong, that is correct, that photo actually sold for more that what most of us would make in a year! So why so much money for that photo?
Basically Abosch is something of a famed photographer and is paid hundreds of thousands by the elites in business and the entertainment industry. He is known for his iconic black backdrop photos, so if you were to do a quick search for his work on Google, you’ll realize that many of his photos are following this theme.
Speaking to PetaPixel, Abosch’s studio said, “Kevin likes potatoes because they, like people are all different yet immediately identifiable as being essentially of the same species. He has photographed many potatoes. This one is one of his favorites.” Like we said, art is subjective. It is a technically sound photo with good composition, but would we pay $1 million for that? We don’t think so.
