The day that many had been waiting for is just around the corner now, Facebook-owned VR company has just confirmed that Oculus Rift pre-orders will finally open on Wednesday, January 6th, 2016. That’s less than 48 hours away, interested customers will be able to place their pre-orders for the Rift virtual reality headset starting 8 am Pacific Time on January 6th. The company reminds interested customers that all orders come bundled with a free copy of the platformer Lucky’s Tale as well as a free copy of CCP’s EVE: Valkyrie.
It’s great that Oculus has finally made the announcement that many of us had been waiting for so anxiously, however, the company has still not revealed how much it’s going to charge for the Rift headset. We’ll know that for sure on Wednesday anyway, but it’s likely that the official price will be confirmed prior to that.
The company was first expected to release the Rift by mid-2015 but it decided to delay the headset to 2016. Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey did say recently the pre-orders for the headset would open soon after the new year. Oculus was supposed to release its motion controller called Oculus Touch by mid-2016 but it recently confirmed that the controller has been delayed. The Rift will ship with an Xbox One controller at launch.
All eyes are now on Oculus to not only confirm the actual price that customers have to pay but also confirm when it’s going to start shipping the units to customers. Hopefully, it will have that information for us soon enough.
