Netflix’s availability is still quite limited. While it might be available in the US and the UK, there are still plenty of countries around the world that have yet to be able to subscribe to their service. However the good news is that could change next week during CES as Netflix is expected to announce expansion plans.
This rumor comes courtesy of The Hindu Business Times in which they report that one of the rumored expansions is into India. As some of you guys might have heard, Netflix has expanded into Asia starting with Japan. They have also announced plans for other Asian markets like Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
Of course this still leaves many parts of the world without Netflix, but presumably Netflix will find their way to those countries. In the meantime while Netflix might not be available, some countries such as Malaysia have come up with similar services, such as iFlix which pretty much offers the same thing, minus original programming.
It would also probably be in Netflix’s best interest to expand into more markets. Amazon is making a similar push so if Netflix can get there before the competition does, they should be able to compete on more solid footing.
