Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune is behind Mighty No. 9, a crowdfunded game that has been delayed yet again. This is the third delay that has been confirmed for this title and it’s bound to frustrate fans and backers once more as they now have to wait even longer to get to play this game. No confirmed release date has been provided as yet so it’s not really clear when we can expect this game to arrive.
Inafune confirmed the latest delay through a note to backers on Kickstarter, the title was originally supposed to be released in April last year, but Inafune believes that the release will “realistically be in spring 2016.”
The Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9 took off in 2013 and ended up raising $3,845,710 for this project that promised to be the spiritual successor to Mega Man. Fans and backers have not only been frustrated with the delays but they’re also frustrated with the way these delays were announced.
Even though they were expecting an April 2015 release it wasn’t really till the end of that month that the release was delayed to September 2015. A few weeks before that it was announced that the title had been delayed to Q1 2016, and now there’s yet another setback.
The explanation offered this time around isn’t really that different from the one offered back in August. Inafune says that there are issues with the game’s multiplayer mode which need to be addressed, the mode was added when the campaign reached its stretch funding goal. He says that “we have no excuses for disappointing our fans and especially our backers once more,” hopefully the team working on this will be able to get Mighty No. 9 ready in time for a spring release.
