So much so that Microsoft has since announced that they will be recalling and replacing some power cables for some of their older Surface Pro models. Note that there doesn’t seem to be any reported cases at the moment, thankfully, so this recall on Microsoft’s part is done out of safety. Better safe than sorry, right?
In a statement made to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, a Microsoft spokesperson said, “As a result of damage caused by AC power cords being wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time, a very small proportion of Surface Pro customers have reported issues with their AC power cord. We will be releasing details of how customers can obtain a free replacement cable shortly.”
So will you be eligible for a replacement power cable? According to the spokesperson, a website will be launched shortly in which you can check your eligibility or get more information, but basically this seems to apply to Surface Pro, Pro 2, and Pro 3 models that were sold before March 2015.
