It was back in July last year that 2K Games confirmed that a new Mafia title is in the pipeline. By August it had released two trailers for Mafia 3 while maintaining that the game will be released in 2016. It has not yet confirmed precisely when the title is going to be released but if retailer listings are to be believed then Mafia 3 should be coming out pretty early on in this new year.
We have seen retailers list release dates for upcoming titles months ahead of time before as well and usually the listed dates turn out to be true, most recently we saw it with Rise of the Tomb Raider for PC, so there’s every possibility that this release date might be the real deal.
Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop all have the Mafia 3 release date listed as April 26th, 2016. The game is already available for pre-order, and even if the April 26th date is just a placeholder, all three retailers appear to be unusually in sync.
2K Games isn’t confirming when it’s going to release the title but upon being asked it said that Mafia 3 is going to be released in calendar year 2016 during Take-Two’s fiscal year 2017, which as it happens, starts from April 1st.
The new title follows five years after Mafia 2 was released in 2010, it’s set in 1968 and the protagonist is out to avenge the death of his family at the hands of the Italian mob when he was stationed in Vietnam.
