[CES 2016] We do know that the folks over at LG have certainly placed plenty of emphasis on OLED technology while aiming high at this year’s CES, having just invested in a second OLED production plant not too long ago, and have started to move more aggressively in the OLED TV market as well. Taking their expertise in this department, LG has come up with an 18″ OLED display – except that this is no ordinary OLED display, since it is bendable and definitely very rollable.
As you can see in the image gallery above, this is one OLED display that will certainly be the talk of town assuming it can be mass produced at a relatively affordable rate, and have it used by other manufacturers as well in their own devices. An e-book comes into mind here, as well as that of e-paper situations. What we do know is, do not expect too much from the resolution in the near future, since it will only deliver WXGA quality at this point in time.
Just how thin is it anyway? LG claims that their 18″ rollable OLED display will measure a mere 0.18mm thin – which makes it slightly thicker than your regular A4 paper, and it is certainly not foldable as creasing it would result in permanent damage at this point in time. Still, this is a start that will hopefully lead to bigger and better things.
