[CES 2016] The retail sector has certainly taken quite a battering over the past year, as economies around the world start to stutter, and sustained, prolonged growth is not something that is achievable since there is a cycle to it all. Still, advertisers continue to look for different ways in order to captivate would-be buyers, and a simple banner or poster will not cut the mustard any more these days. Folks have gotten used to all things glitzy, and they do not look as though they would be persuaded by a simple advertorial video, either. How about wowing them with something that is functional – as with LG’s transparent display?
Transparent displays are definitely not new, and it is an idea that has its merits as it is being developed on by different manufacturers. The main advantage would be the cost – you do not need to have any kind of shiny glass display, followed by installing yet another TV or flat panel display in the vicinity that takes up space. Such a transparent display from LG kills two birds with a single stone, where it delivers a 55” Full HD resolution display with a transparency level that hovers between 40% to 45% – perfect for stores that want to show promotional material from time to time, and yet giving the opportunity to others to see what’s behind the display as well.
As to when retailers will take up this unique proposition, that remains to be seen, but it is definitely an option worth exploring.
