According to Osterloh who spoke to the folks at CNET in an interview during CES 2016, he revealed that the Motorola brand will be phased out. However this doesn’t mean that Motorola’s phones will be disappearing, it’s just that they will instead fall under the Moto brand instead, which is the naming scheme Motorola has been using for their phones anyway.
This is because apparently Lenovo wants to use its corporate brand to help unify their products. We suppose Lenovo isn’t really a name you would think of when it comes to phones, so by doing thing they are increasing their association, but other than the rebranding we expect everything else to remain the same, at least for now.
Motorola’s brand will be replaced by Lenovo’s brand on their mobile devices, but the good news is that the trademark “batwing” logo of Motorola will continue to remain. Of course, not everyone is too thrilled by the news. According to Carolina Milanesi, an analyst for Kantar WorldPanel, “Lenovo does not have a bad brand but Motorola stands for a lot, especially in mobile. It would be a shame to move away from that.” What do you guys think?
