Limited Edition Leica M-P “Panda” Launched

As if Leica cameras weren’t expensive enough as they are, their limited edition cameras sure take things to the next level. But if you have the money and you’re a collector, you might be interested to learn that Leica has announced the Leica M-P “Panda” edition, which is basically a limited edition Leica M-P camera with a new coat of paint.

As you can see in the photos, it’s easy to see why they have called it the Panda. The body is black and white, like a panda, and it is aimed specifically at the Chinese market. There will be two options to choose from: a Leica Summicron-M 28mm f /2 ASPH lens, or a Leica Summilux-M 35mm f /1.4 ASPH lens.

Leica notes that there will only be 30 units of each model made, so once they’re snapped up, you won’t be able to find them anymore. As expected, they do not come cheap and are priced at HK$ 110,000 and HK$ 120,000, which when converted is $14,000-$15,000. Not only is the body given a new coat of paint, but the front end of the lenses will also feature a full metal hollow design.

According to Leica, “Timeless symbols of a black body is a classical tradition while highlighted with flawless white calm, brings unique color and imagery of the Chinese national treasure; the panda. This cleverly echoes past Oriental artistry.” The cameras will be available at Leica stores in China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
