According to a recent rumor, it was further corroborated that the iPhone 7 could lose its headphone port in favor of using Lightning to connect headphones. Now thanks to a new report from Fast Company, it seems that they too have “confirmed” those rumors, and in addition have heard some additional details as well.
For starters they reaffirmed Apple’s decision to lose the headphone port. Lightning is said to be able to support better quality audio, but apparently it will also help to facilitate a new feature for the iPhone 7, which is noise-cancellation technology. This will help remove background noise during music playback, as well as during calls.
They have also heard the possibility that Apple could also sell special noise cancelling Lightning headphones separately, or bundle Lightning headphones in the box, like what we had heard earlier. Other additional rumors include the possibility could be waterproof, which once again corroborates earlier claims.
Last but not least is an interesting feature: wireless charging. Wireless charging isn’t new, but this will be a first for the iPhone if it is true. It also makes sense as it would allow users to listen to music via the Lightning port, and at the same time charge their devices. It is unclear what technology Apple will use for wireless charging, whether it be PMA or Qi, or if they might come up with their own.
In any case take it all with a grain of salt, but for now it certainly sounds like the iPhone 7 is shaping up to be a rather exciting device.
