If you thought the idea was a bit ridiculous, it seems that the notion is starting to gain more traction because according to rumors out of China, sources in Apple’s supply chain have “confirmed” that the Cupertino company will be removing the headphone port. To facilitate audio listening, Apple is expected to turn to the use of Lightning cables or wireless audio.
Headphones that use Lightning cables do exist, however they definitely aren’t as readily available compared to regular 3.5mm audio jack headphones. We also can imagine that many users probably won’t be too pleased, especially since it means losing connectivity to a bunch of accessories like aux in to speakers, camera releases, headphones, flash units, and more.
However according to a poll conducted by 9to5Mac, it seems that nearly half of their readers seem to think that maybe it’s time to move on from the standard and onto newer and possibly better (Lightning is said to be able to support higher quality audio) things, but what do you guys think? Will you miss the headphone port?
