HTC has not really enjoyed much success in the smartphone market for the past few years and perhaps it’s going to take a new Nexus smartphone or two in order to turn its fortunes around. A new rumor suggests that HTC is going to make two new Nexus handsets this year. It won’t be the first time it’s going to collaborate with Google on hardware so there’s no reason to believe that this can’t happen.

It merits mentioning here that HTC was the first manufacturer that Google worked with to build the original Nexus smartphone, the Nexus One, and both companies have also collaborated on a tablet called the Nexus 9.

The rumor, which originates from China, claims that HTC is going to make two new Nexus smartphones in 2016. Details are obviously slim about the rumored handsets right now but it’s claimed that one is going to feature a 5 inch display and the other a 5.5 inch display.

Google often changes manufacturers for Nexus smartphones, it has worked with the likes of Samsung, LG, Motorola and even Huawei, so there’s no reason to believe it won’t go back to HTC if the move makes sense to Mountain View.

Whether or not this really happens remains to be seen because neither HTC nor Google have dropped any hints as yet to indicate that they might collaborate on new Nexus smartphones this year.
