Sustainable living has been on the agenda for many people for the longest time already, including building houses from plastic, but here is a novel idea that might just catch on in the future – a house that remains nice and warm even during the winter. The brainchild of a couple from Sweden, they decided that the best way to ensure they continued to live under the roof of a cozy home is not through the installation of the best heaters, but rather, to cover the house with a greenhouse.
Over in Stockholm, Sweden, the mercury tends to drop to less than -3°C (27°F) on average in January, and hence, Marie Granmar and Charles Sacilotto decided that a house within a greenhouse is the best way to ensure that heat gets trapped within, making sure the house remains nice and warm. Sacilotto was no doubt inspired to come up and realize this idea thanks to architect Bengt Warne, who was the first to design the Naturhus (Nature House) in 1974.
Covering the old summer house with 4mm glass and basing it on Warne’s design, there is still a whole lot of room to roam around in the wrap around garden thanks to a greenhouse footprint that is close to double that of their home.
