[CES 2016] Well, not too long after announcing that Samsung would roll out a spanking new fridge that is known as the Family Hub (and boy does it look so good), here we are with another potential smart fridge for the masses – save for the fact that this particular model will not hail from the folks over at Samsung of South Korea, but rather, Haier. The thing about this Haier fridge is, it will feature not one – but two huge displays on the door as you can see in the image above. It will not be as large as Samsung’s offering, so do not have your hopes too high for it to cater to a large family.
As to whether this particular fridge will arrive Stateside or not, that remains to be seen. What we do know is this – Haier of Japan will be talking to Haier over in the US to see if they could cobble something together to bring this particular smart fridge Stateside. The two screens are powered by a user interface layer that has Android running at the bottom, and it will not be touch sensitive. Rather, the smart fridge from Haier will make use of a gesture recognition system should it be realized across the Pacific.
Theoretically speaking, this smart fridge will let you leave notes on the home screen, as well as an inventory system with their corresponding expiry dates so that you know which items should be consumed before they’re spoilt, and which items need to be topped up. Nothing has been confirmed yet of course, so until something that is more concrete comes around, we will just have to make do with the thought that Samsung might not be the only player with a smart fridge in the future.
