Google Working On Making Chrome Tab Casting Extension-Free

The Chromecast is a nifty little gadget from Google that transforms your TV into a smart TV, it only needs to have an HDMI port, everything else is handled by the dongle. Aside from providing access to apps, games and streaming media services the dongle also allows you to cast or beam content from your device to the TV, that includes Chrome browser tabs. Soon Google may make it much easier to do that.

Google evangelist François Beaufort has revealed that the Chromium team is working on a feature which would eliminate the need for the Google Cast browser extension. Those who want to cast content from their PC or laptop wouldn’t have to first get the extension from the Chrome Web Store.

Instead, they will be able to right-click on the page opened in the tab that they want to cast and just simply click on “Cast,” it really can’t be any simpler than that. This feature has already been switched on in the current beta version of Chrome. It can be enabled in the beta version by going to “chrome://flags/#media-router” and enabling “Media Router.”

The Chromium team regularly tests new and interesting features in the beta version of Google’s popular web browser but that doesn’t mean all of them make the cut. It remains to be seen though if this feature is deemed stable enough to be added to the final version of Chrome, we shall know if that’s going to happen soon enough.
