If you have been a Google Now subscriber for quite some time already, surely you are used to the very notion of notification logos appearing in the top corner of the screen each time there is an update to a score in a game, or perhaps a weather alert of an incoming blizzard – it does not matter, it just appears. For instance, a tiny soccer ball icon would indicate that the sports score has been updated, while the cloud icon points to a new weather alert that begs for your attention. It looks like those are things of the past now, especially when those notifications have been replaced by the latest “G” logo.
In terms of design, it sure as heck looks a whole lot better than a soccer ball or a cloud. Unfortunately, you are unable to figure out what the notification is concerned with, not at least until you open it up. Other than to see the “G” logo appear on your handset, it will also make an appearance on the notifications in the drawer.
At the end of the day, we might wonder what is the point of having such an update in the icon when the old icons served their respective purposes well. Perhaps it is seen more from the design slant than anything else, and if that is the case, then surely the new “G” logo does look a whole lot better.
