Upcoming Google Maps Update Can Figure Out Where You’re Going

Google Maps is great not only for finding out where you need to go, but it can be great if you already know where you’re going but you just want to check up on traffic conditions. Now if you’d rather not go through the trouble of entering every location that you’re going to, the upcoming Google Maps update might be worth keeping an eye out for.

According to the folks at Android Police, they have discovered that in the latest version of Google Maps, there is a feature called Driving Mode. This is described as a smarter version of navigation mode where Google Maps will actually be able to figure out where you’re going and plot a route for you.

How does this work? This is done by combing through your location history and web searches. For example, if you were looking up a restaurant to go to for dinner, Google Maps can take that into account and infer that is where you will be going to. Of course, this might not be 100% accurate all the time, but it does help save you some time from having to enter the location when you get into the car.

However, Android Police points out that enabling Drive Mode seems to be rather tricky at the moment. They are suggesting that this might be a bug and that it might be fixed ahead of its release, which apparently is set for this week.
