Earlier this month, it was reported that Samsung had at least 3 flagships planned: the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, and the Galaxy S7 Edge+. In fact there were even leaked specs for the Galaxy S7 Edge+, but it looks like it might have been all for nothing. A recent tweet by @evleaks seems to imply that Samsung might be done with the device.
The S6 Edge+ was launched last year and it was basically a bigger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge. However the rumors this year claims that the Galaxy S7 will retain the same screen size, while the S7 Edge will sport a larger display, which means that the need for the S7 Edge+ is all but moot.
Assuming that is true, we guess we can’t say we’re too surprised to learn that it might have been cancelled. Now it is possible that Samsung could be delaying the launch of the S7 Edge+ to the later part of the year, like when the next-gen Galaxy Note is announced, but that wasn’t exactly what @evleaks implied.
Note that there were actually four flagships that are rumored, and one that we have yet to hear about is the Galaxy S7 Plus, which we can only assume is the flat but larger screen version of the Galaxy S7. In any case it’s all best taken with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully at MWC 2016 next month, Samsung will have more details to share with us.
