The Fujifilm X70 is a camera that has been rumored about recently, or several years depending on how you want to look at it. So far in terms of fixed lens cameras, Fujifilm has had the X100 series of cameras which while pricey, do a pretty good job for such a device, but in case you can’t afford the X100T, then maybe the X70 might be worth checking out.
As per the rumors, it seems that one of the things that Fujifilm has done with the X70 to cut costs is to remove the viewfinder. This means that if you want to compose your shots, you will have to do so entirely via the LCD display. However given that the display is of the touchscreen variety (a first for Fujifilm’s X-series of cameras), you should be able to use it to great effect.
The camera packs a 16.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor which is actually similar to the X-E2s, so in terms of image quality, it should be somewhat on par. It also comes with an 18.5mm f/2.8 lens which is a 28mm in 35mm format equivalent, making it a wide-angle lens. Combine that with the base aperture, the X70 should make for a pretty decent pocketable landscape camera.
Just like the X100T, the X70 will come with a host of dials that allows the photographer to adjust their settings on the fly, as opposed to having to dive into a sea of menus. There is also WiFi and Full HD 1080 @ 60fps video capture, and it is expected to be released in February where it will be priced at $699.95.
