We rely so much on our phones and the internet these days to look up information, so when traveling to a foreign country where we don’t have access to internet, it can be pretty scary since you don’t know where to go or what to do. However the good news is that if you were to visit South Korea, you could be eligible for a free smartphone rental.
According to Yonhap News, local carrier SK Telecom and Samsung will be teaming up to provide foreign tourists to South Korea with free rental smartphones. The phones will be available for pickup at the Incheon International Airport, with an estimated 250 phones being given out each week.
However there are some caveats. For starters not everyone will get the free rental phone. Tourists will need to apply via the Korea Tourism Organization’s website, and if successful they will be able to rent the phone for free for up to 5 days, with complimentary data of up to 1GB per day.
The phones will also come preloaded with information regarding tourism in South Korea in various languages, which hopefully will come in handy for first-time visitors. Unfortunately no word on when this program is expected to roll out, but if you are planning a trip to South Korea, this might be something worth checking out in the future.
