It was pretty huge news last year when it was announced that Square Enix would be remaking Final Fantasy 7. It is safe to say that out of all the Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy 7 has to be the most iconic, featuring characters that even people who do not play the game will be able to recognize.
It is also safe to say that based on the game’s trailer, it will look vastly different from the original, but how different? The good news is that the folks at IGN have thrown together a short video which compares the graphics of the original title versus what we can expect, and the differences are night and day.
We guess this is to be expected since the original was released in 1997, almost 20 years ago. It also shows how far along technology has come. That being said for those unfamiliar with the remake, Square Enix had stated that the remake won’t be 100% the same as the original. It does appear to feature the same characters, but don’t expect a 100% faithful remake.
We’re not sure if this will work out well in their favor since Final Fantasy 7 is such a beloved title, but for all we know it could work out for the better given that they’ve had 20 years to rethink everything. Unfortunately a release date for the remake is still pretty much up in the air, so until then we guess gameplay trailers will have to make do.
