It seems like it was just yesterday that Facebook launched a standalone Messenger app and then removed the chat feature from its main app so that users would have to install the new app if they wanted to chat with friends on Facebook through their mobile device. The strategy appears to have paid off, Facebook Messenger has grown into a much more powerful platform since, and the rapid growth in users is a testament to its success. The social network has announced today that Facebook Messenger has crossed 800 million users.
Throughout 2015 Facebook continued to make significant improvements to Messenger, it added features like video calling, the ability to customize conversations with color and made Messenger much faster and even brought on emojis and nicknames.
All of those changes helped to retain existing users and draw in new ones who might not have used the app till now, which is why towards the end of 2015 the social network say monthly average user numbers for Messenger blow past the 800 million milestone.
If Messenger continues with this momentum then it won’t be long before we hear that it has crossed the significant milestone of a billion monthly average users. From the looks of it, this announcement might be made in just the next few months.
