Facebook has transformed Messenger into a bonafide communications platform ever since the day it launched a standalone app and removed the ability to chat with friends through the main Facebook app. In just a couple of years Messenger has grown into so much more than just a tool to chat with your friends, only recently the company announced that it has more than 800 million monthly users, so expanding it even further would only help its cause. According to a report, Facebook is working on a version of Messenger for Mac.
TechCrunch has obtained a picture which apparently shows an unreleased version of Facebook Messenger for Mac desktop app, and backs it up with an eyewitness report, looks like it was a Facebook employee that was spotted using Facebook Messenger for Mac.
It’s obviously going to be in the company’s interest to release a standalone Messenger app for Mac, it will allow Mac users to chat easily with their friends without having to keep open a browser window.
Facebook hasn’t confirmed or denied yet if it’s working on such an app, when reached by the scribe for a comment on the report it responded as follows: “We don’t comment on rumor or speculation.” That’s usually how the company responds to these things.
