As gamers might be aware, EA is the publisher behind Star Wars Battlefront. The game is set 3 decades after the original trilogy and while it does offer up a lot of possibilities, like what happened in between and etc., it seems that EA’s arrangement with Disney and Lucas is that they won’t be allowed to mix content from the latest movie, The Force Awakens, with that of the original trilogy.
During EA’s earnings call, CFO Blake Jorgensen was quoted as saying, “On Star Wars, the one thing that we are adhering to, and I think this is part of our arrangement with Lucas and Disney, is you can’t make a game in Star Wars that violates the canon of Star Wars.” While admittedly this does sound limiting in terms of creativity, we guess it also helps to create a more unified storyline.
But what do you guys think? Should EA have been given creative liberty to do what they want with the game, or do you like it the way it is in a bid to ensure that the story and ideas remain consistent in the movies and video games?
