We have come to expect fireworks during major celebrations, such as during the holiday season, New Year’s, the fourth of July, and etc. However fireworks are messy, expensive, and potentially dangerous, and also admittedly a bit limited in the kind of displays that they can show off.
That being said, Intel’s CEO Brian Krzanich thinks that he has found a potential replacement for fireworks, and it comes in a rather unusual form: drones. Krzanich believes that drones have the potential to one day replace fireworks in our skies. According to the company’s CEO, “I see a future where fireworks and all their risks of smoke and dirt are a thing of the past, and they’re replaced by shows that have unlimited creativity and potential – and powered by drones.”
In fact they have recently demonstrated this whereby 100 pre-programmed drones took to the sky and put on a spectacular lightshow. This was done in collaboration with Futurelab and was actually filmed last year, with the video making its debut during Intel’s keynote at CES earlier this month.
Dubbed Drone 100, the drones were fitted with LEDs and was actually awarded and certified by the Guinness World Records as being the most UAVs airborne simultaneously. In any case if you have a couple of minutes to spare, you can check out the demonstration in the video above.
