With tech companies throwing their hat in the ring, conventional car manufacturers are worried that they might not contribute as much to the future of automobiles as these companies who have had no prior experience in this industry will. It wasn’t easy for Google to create self-driving cars, or for Apple to get the team in place for its rumored electric car project and their efforts are being acknowledged. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has said in an interview that he’s surprised with the progress tech companies have made on cars.
Daimler knows a thing or two about technologically advanced cars, its subsidiaries include Mercedes-Benz which makes the S-Class, that car has time and again proven to be a pioneer in automotive technology.
Following his visits to tech companies in Silicon Valley, Zetsche said in an interview with Welt am Sonntag that he’s convinced that Google and Apple “can do more and know more” about cars than previously believed, adding that the companies have “more respect” for the work Daimler has done over decades than he originally suspected.
This realization might compel the Diamler CEO to push for more technological advancements in the cars produced by this corporation’s subsidiaries, and perhaps it won’t be long till we see Daimler inking partnerships with tech companies, since Zetsche did meet with more than 70 companies in the Valley and mentioned in the report that there were “concrete talks” with a few of those companies.
