Last year we reported on a concept plane called the Skreemr. According to its creators Ray Mattison and Charles Bombardier, the jet would be able to travel from New York to London in 30 minutes, meaning that traveling between the two countries will probably take you less time than driving in downtown New York stuck in traffic.
Now it seems that Bombardier is back with yet another concept, this one dubbed “The Antipode”, and according to his latest concept, it will beat the Skreemr by a mile as it would allow travel between New York and London in 11 minutes! According to Bombardier, the Antipode is capable of ferrying 10 passengers, travel at altitudes of 40,000 feet, and will be able to hit top speeds of over 20,000kmph.
The plane will also be powered by reusable liquid-oxygen or kerosene rockets. Other destinations that the plane could hit in record time includes a trip from New York to Dubai in 22 minutes, Hong Kong in 26 minutes, and Sydney in 32 minutes, all of which is the duration you might expect from ordering a Domino’s pizza.
Of course this is just a concept and we’re sure there are plenty of technical details that needs to be worked out, like how will the plane decelerate, or how it will handle the high temperatures generated while traveling, the extreme G-force, and so on, but hey, it’s always nice to dream.
