While Chrome might be the default browser on the desktop for many, when it comes to iOS devices, some users might choose to use Safari simply because Apple’s default browser for iOS is noticeably faster and more stable than the Chrome app for mobile. Google has been making changes and improvements over the year, and the latest update might be of interest to some.
Google has recently pushed out its latest update for Chrome for iOS in the form of Chrome 48. According to Google, they claim that the latest update will make the app faster and more stable than before. Tests conducted by Google have found that crash rates are down by as much as 70%, and has also seen an increase in JavaScript execution.
This is largely thanks to Google migrating to WKWebView, versus the UIWebView process that they used previously. Google has been slowly making the shift and with Chrome 48, they have officially and fully made the switch. Apparently its speed makes it almost on par with Safari, so if you’ve been dying to get Chrome on iOS but was put off by its slowness and its crashing, maybe this update might be just what the doctor ordered.
The update should be available for download so if you haven’t updated your Chrome for iOS yet, then head on over to the iTunes App Store for the download.
