There are plenty of FPS games out there, but it is safe to say that as far as the mainstream ones are concerned, it’s a bit hard to think of FPS games and not think of franchises like EA’s Battlefield or Activision’s Call of Duty. That being said, it looks like the Call of Duty franchise has achieved a new milestone.
According to the latest data, it has been revealed that the franchise has managed to sell over 250 million units to date. That’s a quarter of a billion copies of Call of Duty titles that have been sold ever since the franchise was created. Let that number sink in for a moment. To top things off, the latest installment, Black Ops III, was also found to be the top-selling game for November and December of 2015.
We’re not sure if the time will come where gamers will get tired of the franchise, but so far it doesn’t look like things are slowing down as Black Ops III actually topped the NPD’s sales chart for 2015 as well. That being said, Activision certainly can’t rest on their laurels because according to the reports, Take-Two’s Grand Theft Auto franchise is closing in on Call of Duty.
The numbers have revealed that there have been 220 million copies of Grand Theft Auto titles sold to date, with almost a quarter (54 million to be exact) coming from Grand Theft Auto V.
