However we did hear that its successor is expected to pack more health features and sensors, and now a BuzzFeed News report seems to have “confirmed” it. According to the report, they have noted that Apple has ramped up their hiring of employees in the health/medical field. The job listings for biomedical engineers and technicians were posted in November, and recent LinkedIn profile changes seem to support those claims.
According to BuzzFeed News, “For example, Anne Shelchuk, who has a doctorate in biomedical engineering, left ultrasound software company ZONARE Medical Systems for Apple’s health technology team in November.” We suppose this is to be expected if Apple wants to stay ahead of the competition, which is what they’re doing now as reports claim that the Apple Watch accounted for more than half of smartwatch shipments in 2015.
In any case it is possible that these hires might have nothing to do with the Apple Watch, so maybe try not to get your hopes up just yet. The Apple Watch 2 is expected to be launched by mid-2016, so we could learn more about the device during Apple’s March event, or maybe even mid-year at WWDC 2016.
