Another day, another report about Apple’s rumored automotive ambitions. It’s claimed that after being unhappy with the direction and progress of this project Apple has decided to place a hiring freeze on the team that’s working on its car. For a couple of years now it has been rumored that Apple is building a car, Tesla CEO Elon Musk went so far as to say that Apple’s car plans are an open secret.
The report claims that the decision to implement a hiring freeze on the team was made after a progress review conducted after the holidays by design head Jony Ive, it’s said that he “expressed his displeasure” with the progress the team has made so far.
It’s believed that Apple has more than 1,000 people working on Project Titan, the codename for its car project, the company’s aggressive hiring did make news as it was poaching engineering talent from the likes of Tesla.
The news about this hiring freeze comes merely days after it was reported that the manager in charge of Apple’s car project, Steve Zadesky, was leaving the company after being there for nearly two decades. His departure is credited to personal reasons but it’s unclear if that played a role in this review which ultimately led to hiring restrictions.
