IHS Analyst: New Nintendo Portable Set To Launch In 2016
It was a week ago that we brought you word on how a report from Macquarie Capital Securities in Japan saw unnamed analysts lay claim to the upcoming portable Nintendo device, nicknamed the Nintendo NX, will roll out some time this year, although the exact date remains unknown. Well, fast forward by a week, and we have a name – IHS senior principal analyst Hiroshi Hayase in particular, who stepped forward and mention that the supposed new handheld console from Nintendo will be released this year, where it is tipped to be one of two next-generation devices from the venerable company.
Hayase mentioned at the IHS display forum, “We expect a small recovery in shipments of flat-panel displays for game devices because of Nintendo’s new game hardware expected to be released in 2016.” While Hayase did not confirm or deny the size of the portable console’s display, he did mention that this will be a standalone device, which will make it very different from the Wii U GamePad that needs a Wii U to work, as it is useless on its own despite having a personal screen.
Nintendo remained mum on the situation, but cited that they would share additional news concerning the NX down the road. Would it be at E3 in June?
