[CES 2016] Monitors are a dime a dozen and while that might be overwhelming for consumers, the upside is that there will be a lot of choices that they can choose from, meaning that manufacturers need to up their game if they hope to stay relevant in today’s market.
For those shopping for a new monitor, Acer has announced new R1, H7, and XR series of monitors, all of which are different in their own unique ways and will cater to different needs. Starting with the R1 series, these displays are designed for those looking to minimize clutter thanks to their thinness which measures under 7mm. They also sport a ZeroFrame design which basically gives the illusion that your screen is bigger than it is, thanks to the lack of distracting bezels. The sizes include 21.5-, 23-, 23.8-, 25-and 27-inch options and will all sport Full HD resolutions.
Moving on to the H7 series, these monitors are designed for those who need more USB ports for their computers. While most monitors these days do sport additional USB ports, the H7 series will be the world’s first monitor to support USB-C connectivity. The use of USB-C should facilitate faster transfer speeds and is future-proofed so that you won’t have to upgrade in the future just for the connectivity. They are available in 25- and 27-inch options with a WQHD resolution.
Last but not least is the Acer XR342CK which is the latest in Acer’s XR series of monitors. While companies like Samsung might be known for their curved displays, the XR342CK is Acer’s attempt at a similar design, although it is not the company’s first attempt at such a display. It sports a 34-inch 21:9 WQHD display panel with 1900R curvature and also the incorporation of DTS Sound, making it a decent setup for multimedia purposes. It will also support AMD’s FreeSync technology.
In terms of pricing and availability, the Acer R1 series will be priced starting at $129.99 but availability has yet to be determined. The H7 will be available starting February and will be priced starting at $499.99. North American availability of the XR342CK was not mentioned, but in the EMEA region it will be available in March starting at €1,099.
