For example there will be screen-off playback capabilities, and the ability to save videos for offline viewing. However are these features worth paying $9.99 a month for? If you’re still a little skeptical about subscribing, fret not because it seems that you can expect more content. A report from The Wall Street Journal has revealed that YouTube is in talks with TV and movie studios.
Apparently YouTube wants the streaming rights for TV shows and movies, which means that in the future it is possible that YouTube Red will end up like Netflix where you can not only stream original content from YouTubers, but also popular TV shows and movies. Discussions are said to be in their very early stages as one Hollywood studio has confirmed that they have not had talks with YouTube just yet.
No doubt this is a feature that will make the $9.99 monthly subscription a lot more appealing. However as it stands, YouTube Red is only available in the US so presumably any streaming deals they will will also be limited (initially) to the US, but until then take this report with a grain of salt for now.
